About the Archivist

Beth Patkus

Beth Patkus joined the C. Wesley Christman Archives in November 2010 as Archivist for the New York Annual Conference. Beth earned her undergraduate degree from Wellesley College and her Masters in Information and Library Studies from the University of Michigan, where a concentration in archival administration led to an interest in archival and library preservation. Beth worked as assistant archivist at the Archives of the Archdiocese of Boston before joining the Field Service office at Northeast Document Conservation Center in Massachusetts. She has worked as a private consultant specializing in archives and library preservation for the past 18 years.

Our Name

The Archives of the New York Annual Conference is named for the late Rev. C. Wesley Christman, Jr. (1909-2004), long-time Methodist pastor and church historian. Reverend Christman was president of the New York Conference Historical Society (the predecessor of today’s Commission on Archives and History) for nearly thirty years, served in many leadership roles in regional Methodist historical societies and edited the regional newsletter for nearly forty years. Reverend Christman served as Conference Secretary, Archivist and in a number of other roles in the New York Annual Conference. The Archives was consecrated and named for Reverend Christman in 2002, and we are grateful for his visionary leadership.
